Bori Máté is currently an FWF ESPRIT post-doctoral researcher in the Department of Media Theory, at the University of Applied Arts Vienna, where she also completed her doctoral studies in 2025. She studied film history and film theory at the Eötvös Loránd University, Budapest. Her current research focuses on experimental cinema, elemental media philosophy and alchemy.
Máté has been publishing articles in such journals as the Quarterly Review of Film and Video and the Millennium Film Journal. She guest edited the special issue (2/2023) called “(Eco)Traumatic Landscapes in Contemporary Audiovisual Culture” at the Czech Journal for Film Theory, History, and Aesthetics, Iluminace.
As an experimental filmmaker, her works have been screened at festivals like the Berlin Critics’ Week, the International Film Festival Rotterdam, or the Jihlava IDFF.
In May 2022 Máté also curated the program “Eco Cinema” (screening and lecture) — a collaboration between the joint university program Lectures for Future and the Department of Media Theory.
